Art in nature in Ticino by Pamela Pintus
We often hear about the art of nature, as our creation is the beauty promoter, but what can we say about art in nature? A unique, superior experience, reachable only when man's technical and artistic ingenuity merge with the vegetation's ability to transform and enhance everything inside. A particular adventure that can only be fully understood when experienced by yourself. But where is it possible to find this kind of works? In Ticino, we have permanent exhibitions where nature and art come together to create a unique setting, always different with the changing seasons and times of the day.
Artinbosco, Capriasca
It is a symbiosis between human and environmental composition, which fascinates thousands of visitors from all over Europe every year. You can admire the various artworks among the trees from the San Clemente woodland path.
At the entrance, you will be fascinated by the works suspended in the air or placed on the undergrowth; natural manifestations and artistic works, art creations that change over time and give back different perceptions at each new visit. What evolves is the surrounding environment and the exhibition itself, as every year, they are extended with new elements. The route was inaugurated in September 2018, and contemporary works by Swiss and international artists have been added to the six initial pieces each year. It is to encourage the public to return and deal with time.
The works that we can admire in this exhibition are from different artists. Nine art creations correspond to as many masters of the art. Names of the caliber of Lorenzo Cambin, who gave life to the "Parasite", or Karin Van Der Molen, who created "Heart of Gold", or Lucia Loren with her homage of art and ecology "Ombra". Different artefacts reflect the soul and concept of each artist, their unique vision of nature and their consequent interpretation. Everything speaks – the materials used (recycled), the lights and shadows that each structure makes, unique and unforgettable elements highlighted by a layout enhancing the peculiarities of each piece, which is transmitting precious and atypical emotions to the public.
The city of Capriasca is in the Lugano area, in a quiet location immersed in nature. In the southern part, we find the Cassarate river, which flows into Lake Lugano. In contrast, in the north – in the highest part of the Municipality –Monte Bar (1816 meters high), which houses two alpine huts, are used by hikers, even beginners, during their explorations. There are also sports facilities and modern infrastructure, which families and athletes of all levels appreciate.
Path to art, Verzasca Valley
In the Verzasca Valley, we find another path that combines nature and creativity, the "path to art". Along this path, we can admire artistic, landscape and naturalistic beauties. The Ticino section of the SPSAS (Swiss Painters-Sculptors-Architects Society) and the Tenero and Valle Verzasca Tourist Office has created this route where you can find contemporary works created by Swiss, German, and Italian artists. The exhibition consists of 20 pieces, and each of them has completely different materials and styles. You can admire colorful creations, wooden paintings, painted ceramic subjects, stone statues or sheet metal constructions. Nature takes on new colors and shapes thanks to the combination of glass, stone, steel, or wood. The path extends for 4.5 km and can be reached from both sides to start from Lavertezzo, near the Roman bridge or Brione.
Numerous artists have contributed to this exhibition, including Joseph Briechhle, Pietro Capra, Antonio Luond, Steff Luthi, Penelope M. Mackworth-Praed and Ernest Oeschger. They have created a unique work following their style and technique, offering a kaleidoscope of profiles and colors. The Verzasca Valley is the green heart of the Canton of Ticino, an idyllic place nestled between imposing mountains. The ideal place for an excursion on foot or by bike, away from the city chaos. The Verzasca river has intense turquoise color and is a destination for tourists and visitors from all over Europe to see the renowned "Maldives of Ticino".
Sculptures Path, Ascona
The Sculpture Path is a thematic trail enjoyed by young and old alike. Inside this wood, you will find yourself like in a fairytale, a walk made even more magical by the various artists who have created fairytale wooden sculptures. For that reason, the trial is especially appreciated by families with children, even if it offers new points of view for everyone. The path stretches for 1.5 km, can be travelled easily in half an hour, and since it is a linear journey, there is no need for any physical preparation to face it. It is accessible with a stroller and with animals always kept on a leash. It starts from Monte Verità in Ascona and always returns to where it began. Nearby there is a small picnic and a grill area set up with barbecue.
Ascona is a renowned holiday destination capable of offering a lot from the historical, artistic, cultural, and natural point of view. Upon our arrival, the first thing we notice is the lakefront with that typical Mediterranean flavor, thanks to the colorful facades of the houses, the palm trees, and the shimmering Lake Maggiore. You can discover a medieval village with Renaissance references if you move inland, making it the perfect place for summer evenings. The numerous art galleries and boutiques, which turn it into a shopper's paradise, are not to be forgotten.
Ticino is the ideal place to combine all your interests, from art to nature. You can choose this destination for both as a holiday and a place to live, as it will give you lots of emotions like it happens to me during my excursions.
I wish you a happy immersion in greenery and art to everyone!
