Veronica Gautschi is a Ticino stylist and with her creations, combining elegance, originality and functionality, she quickly reached the markets all over the world. She has attracted the interest of that large slice of travelers who like to move around with useful accessories, but without giving up the class. In the following interview, the designer reveals the key to her success, her future projects and how she managed to achieve great success in the fashion world, launching a brand based on minimalism and essential lines.

How did your passion for fashion come about and what are your origins?
I think fashion is an art form, I never classified it as a passion. I think we are born with this creative drive, which can find its expression in different things, either in the design of a painting, in the design of a design object, in a dress, in a bag.

Why do you connect the "Veronica Gautschi" brand to the travel world, what link is there with the travel world?
Every creation art comes from something intimate. My products are born from my travel inspiration, which find their expression in objects that can meet the needs of those who move in today's world, combining elegance, functionality and personality. The brand's signature is a double accessory. The interchangeable carrying bag strap that becomes a bracelet, matches all the looks with various colors.
The 2020 collections are dedicated to the 5 cities in my heart that are New York, Paris, London, Milan and Tokyo and has expanded to other products related to the world of travel, such as the travel bag, which becomes a practical tote bag. I have created objects that have a double possibility of use precisely because, and those who travel so much know it, the lighter you travel and the easier it is.

How did the idea of creating your own fashion line come about?
The basic idea was born because I travel a lot, and I have become practical not bringing with me many changes, but trying to travel as light as possible, the bag style has always been the most difficult to manage.

I was struck by the style and design of your creations, how did the inspiration come about?
Surely the idea of the woman on the road, together with what she may need during her travels have influenced my inspiration. But that influence is just as important as the architecture, the places, but above all the people I have met in my life and in my travels.

Is there any fashion icon or a designer that you like to follow or that inspired you?
There are the big names of timeless fashion that inspires the work. However, the design of my products comes a lot from what my path is; I grew up in the linear ambience of Swiss design and graphics.

What is the mission / essence of the "Veronica Gautschi" brand?
The essence of the brand is composed of a Swiss design and a made in Italy. The combination of an iconic sense of design with the use of other materials and craftwork. The brand wants to share the passion to travel and celebrate the beauty of freedom.
The mission is to combine highly Swiss quality standards with ethical work to create unique and timeless objects. Giving our customers a personalized emotion while becoming a timeless icon.

You call yourself a Swiss Brand. Why?
The design of my products is typically Swiss, in the sense that it is a very rigorous design, with objects with clean, linear accurate lines that reflect the tradition of Swiss design.

How important is Ticino for your business?
Ticino is the place where I was born and where my cherish friendships are. However, I would like to go beyond the Alps because I trust in “swissness”, and I am proud, in my small way, to bring the highest standards of Swiss design beyond Swiss borders.

What's your connection to Italy instead?
Florence is a reference point for leather goods internationally. I have the great privilege of working with a family-run leather workshop, which has become an essential part of my work. I am happy to have consolidated ties with all the suppliers who believe in the project and in the brand as they give me constant support. I believe that you can do everything on your own, but together we are stronger.

As we understand it, you love to travel... Where are you living right now?
In fact, I am a great traveler, and I often travel around the world. I no longer even keep a track of the flights I did and the cities I visited. Now I live in France, but as my father says I continue to live with my suitcase in my hand.

What advice would you give to those who want to follow in your footsteps?
I don't feel like giving advice because I'm still learning how to do it ... but what I can say is to fall, make a mistake, get lost to find oneself, and always keep in mind that one is never alone, that "somewhere" there is "someone" with whom to share your talent and dream.

What plans, future wishes do you have in the drawer?
My biggest dream is to support and see all those strong and talented young women who dream big like me to grow up. For this reason I found a community with no name and no place "Someone, Somewhere" to give space and light to young entrepreneurs in the fashion, art and food industry, because I believe that fashion is not only made of objects, but of a light that illuminates the path of the dreamer. Art is what satisfies you, and food reflects the joy of living. Stay tuned ... you will soon hear about "Someone, Somewhere".
