Energetic places in Ticino by Pamela Pintus

Connecting with nature is an essential step to find inner balance and make us feel in harmony with ourselves and with others; it is an unlimited energy source from which to draw the strength to face the complex challenges of life.

On Earth, there are unique places where the energetic vibrations are powerful; they can be identified through a pendulum and quantified with the Bovis scale, named after the French physician who first performed this type of measurement. I only spend a few words explaining that a human’s minimum level of helpful energy should be above 6500 units for those unfamiliar with this topic. Below this value, the effects can be very adverse for humans, animals and plants.

Those looking for new places to reload their energy or those wishing to approach this practice for the first time can find interesting ideas in this short article. Ticino is full of beautiful places of vital energy where relax and meditate peacefully.

Silent valleys, waterfalls, woods, mountains, or lakes, and human-made works such as monasteries or churches are places where energy vibrations are strong and help us feel part of what surrounds us. I have personally had this experience, and I want to pass it on to you too, hoping that my suggestions will be helpful to you.

Sass da Grüm, San Nazzaro in Gambarogno

It is in Gambarogno, one of Ticino's most evocative and fascinating places above Lake Maggiore. It is an energetic place known since ancient times for emanating positivity. The Sass da Grüm spur is located at 660 m. It dominates the whole territory offering a magnificent panoramic lake view; of the Maggia Delta, the river and Ascona and Locarno's cities. The benefits that you can obtain in these places have been confirmed by some specific studies and are linked to the particular position, which refers Monte Ceneri, the ancient volcano active a billion years ago, the presence of the lake, the purity of the air. And a fertile and welcoming land.

Yoga Path, Vairano

If you are passionate about yoga, I suggest another place to spend a day in contact with positive energy: the Yoga Path in Vairano. The starting point is in the vicinity of Sass da Grüm. In this area, there is no coincidence that a Yoga Trail was created, designed and organized to move along a circular path of about 3 kilometers, which follows the shade of the forest and offers nine stations located in strategic places where you can stop to perform yoga exercises. This path is a unique experience to do in Ticino, and it was inaugurated in 2012. Each station has a specific theme ranging from Prana to Savasana and allows you to stop for silence, listen to nature, hug a tree or stay in meditation in a house on the branches.

Monte Verità, Ascona

The beauty of this place is breathtaking and attracts thousands of hikers every year, who are for peace and relaxation. Perhaps this is the reason why, in the early 20th century, Ida Hofmann and Henri Oedenkoven founded a movement here that supported the return to nature, a vegetarian diet and nudism. It is a place with a spiritual appeal and known as Ticino's most important energetic place due to its particular geomagnetism. It is possible to organize exciting excursions, guided, that reach Valletta del Silenzio, a natural cathedral, on the top of Balladrum and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Fontana, with its spring, a significant Marian worship place.

Valletta delle streghe at Mergoscia in the Verzasca Valley

The Verzasca valley is part of the Locarno district and comprises municipalities including Mergoscia, Corippo, Vogorno and Sonogno. Geographically it is located between the Valle Maggia, the Valle Leventina and is immersed between the mountains and Lake Maggiore, in a magnificent natural position. I want to spend a few more words on the history of these places before concluding my short guide because the first settlements date back to the Neolithic. The symbol of the area, the famous Pietra delle Streghe or Sass di Striöi, is attributable to the 8th century BC. and bears engraved crosses and footprints. A Roman necropolis is in Tenero. All this shows how this valley has continually been inhabited without ever having a predominant role due to access difficulties, making it possible to preserve its uniqueness.

Right here, in Val Verzasca, is the parish church of Mergoscia, located in a magnificent position, on a natural terrace, which allows you to admire the entire Lake Maggiore and that of Vogorno. As I explained initially, the energy points are not only of natural origin, and it seems that the church tower can attract cosmic energy and spread it around as if it were a real antenna. You can sit on the benches located under the bell tower to enjoy the energy and the view of this place.

Another energy point is in the so-called Valletta delle Streghe, a basin located in the Perbioi area, characterized by a large and centuries-old chestnut tree indicating this area entrance. Electromagnetic flows from north and south meet there, and you can enjoy excellent solar radiation, which helps create a unique harmony that brings peace and relaxation.

Bagni di Craveggia in Onsernone

Craveggia is on the border between Italy and Switzerland and is characterized by luxuriant vegetation along the banks of the Isorno river. The Bagni di Craveggia can be reached on foot from Switzerland starting from Spruga, with a quiet and pleasant walk of about 50 minutes. From Italy the route is more complicated, and you need mountain equipment. These thermal baths are what remains of a thermal establishment from the late nineteenth century, destroyed in 1951 by an avalanche. The water comes out at 28°, and the use of the tanks is free. It is ideal if you want to spend a relaxing day in an environment full of positive energy, in direct contact with water and nature.

Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angioli, Lugano

Santa Maria degli Angioli is located in Lugano. The city represents a vital energy centre itself, due to the mild and pleasant climate during the whole year. You can experience the beauty of its symbolic places both day and night. Then, its green soul expressed above all in the Ciani Park and on the shores of the lake should not be underestimated.

This church, in particular, has a large Renaissance fresco made by a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci, Bernardino Luini. Another peculiarity is the difference in energy intensity that you can feel in the various church areas. When you pass through the four right-hand side chapels, the vibrations progressively increase up to 13000-14000 Bovis, but the one near the altar is more than 18 000 Bovis. Each place and each energy point has its own effect on people; in this case we can say that the goal is to establish a mystical relationship with the past and find harmony with oneself.
